Coloring Book Printing
Coloring books need paper suited to the intended pencils or pens, crisp line art, and pages that open comfortably for coloring. We print custom titles for publishers, schools, museums and brands—from children's activity books to detailed adult editions—using supplied artwork and white uncoated interior paper.
Single-sided printing, perforated tear-out pages, saddle stitch, perfect binding, Wire-O and hardcover formats are available. Matching printed sticker sheets and boxes can be included in a set. Standard bulk orders start at 500 copies, with trial quantities from 300 copies reviewed against the project specifications.
Coloring pages need an uncoated surface that readers can work on. Cover finishes can protect the book and bring out its artwork without changing the feel of the interior.

Coloring books use different paper for their pages and covers. The interior is printed on white uncoated stock with a slightly absorbent surface that gives crayons and colored pencils some grip. For a softcover book, heavier coated art paper gives the full-color cover its structure and finish.
Uncoated Paper — Interior Pages: Common weights range from 80–180 gsm. For crayons and colored pencils, 120–140 gsm is a useful starting point. A 160–180 gsm sheet gives single-sided pages a firmer feel for books intended for pens or markers. Match the final weight to the coloring tools, page count and binding.
Gloss Art Paper — Cover: A 250–300 gsm softcover stock with a bright, reflective finish that brings out colorful illustrations.
Matte Art Paper — Cover: A 250–300 gsm softcover stock with a softer sheen and less glare on detailed cover artwork and type.
For a hardcover edition, a printed coated wrap of around 157 gsm can be mounted on 2–3 mm greyboard; the board gives the cover its stiffness. Test the intended gel pens or markers on a physical sample: even heavier interior paper may allow some inks to bleed through.

Folded sheets are stapled through the center to make a slim book that opens easily. This format suits short classroom activity books, children's editions and promotional booklets.
The total page count needs to work in groups of four. Heavier uncoated pages add bulk at the fold, so the practical page count is checked against the chosen stock. Keep important outlines clear of the center fold and trim.
Metal loops hold punched sheets along one edge, letting the book lie flat or fold back on itself. A detailed page can stay open on a desk while someone colors, without needing to press down the other pages.
Wire-O can be paired with a printed card cover or a rigid cover. Leave a clear margin for the punched holes; the wire size is confirmed after the interior paper and page count are set.
A rigid cover gives larger coloring books protection for retail display and repeated handling. Full-color cover artwork and selected finishes can be paired with white uncoated pages inside.
A sewn book block can improve opening, but a standard casebound hardcover is not automatically a true lay-flat book. If readers need to color with the book fully open on a table, confirm a suitable lay-flat construction or Wire-O hardcover in the physical sample.
A perforated line near the binding edge lets readers remove finished drawings for classroom display, framing or sharing. It can be paired with one design per sheet when the back of each drawing should remain blank.
The tear line is positioned for the chosen binding, away from the illustration and any punched holes or staples. Check on a physical sample that the page separates cleanly and the remaining book stays intact.

Publishers, schools, museums and brands order coloring books for different age groups and uses. A children's edition may combine coloring pages with puzzles or tracing; an adult edition may feature intricate line art and pages intended to be kept or displayed.
Children's titles can be made for classroom packs, museum family programs, restaurant activities and seasonal promotions. We print the supplied illustrations and activity pages on white uncoated paper, with 120, 140 and 160 gsm options for crayons and colored pencils.
A short booklet can be saddle stitched. For projects that call for no staples, choose a Smyth-sewn paperback or casebound hardcover. Rounded corners and a laminated cover are available for books that will be handled frequently. Share the age group and intended coloring tools, and we can recommend the paper and binding for the finished book.

White uncoated interior paper is available in 100, 120, 140 and 160 gsm. Wire-O keeps pages open or folds them back; perfect binding gives a conventional paperback; a casebound hardcover suits a premium edition. For artwork meant to be removed, print one design per sheet with optional perforation. Yes. Full-color reference images, instructions or illustrated pages can appear alongside black line art and grayscale coloring pages. Mark the color page positions in your interior file so the quote reflects the correct printing specification.
Our standard minimum is 500 copies per design. A 300-copy first run can be reviewed once the specifications are confirmed. Pricing depends on the finished size, page count, quantity, printing colors, paper, binding and any added packaging; send these details for a project-specific quote.
A custom sample typically takes 3–7 working days after the artwork and materials are confirmed. Bulk printing typically takes 10–15 working days after artwork and sample approval. Additional finishing or a packed set may need more time; shipping is scheduled separately.
Send the interior as a print-ready PDF in reading order and the cover as a separate file. Give us the finished size and page count, and mark any color pages, blank backs and tear-out pages. We can check bleed, inner margins and line clarity before making the sample.
Share the delivery country, postal code and required arrival date. For a DDP quote, we can include freight, customs clearance, applicable duties and import taxes in the delivered price and state the scope in writing. Duty depends on the finished book or kit's tariff classification and country of origin.
