RGB color is a color mode mainly used for digital screens, cameras, and online media. It creates colors by combining three light-based channels:
R — Red
G — Green
B — Blue
Different brightness levels of these three colors create the images displayed on screens.
For printing, RGB files need special attention because they are created for light-based displays rather than ink-based reproduction.
RGB creates colors by adding light together.
Each channel controls the intensity of one primary light color:
Red controls red tones.
Green controls green tones.
Blue controls blue tones.
When all three channels reach their highest values, the screen displays white. When they are reduced, darker colors appear.
This is different from CMYK, which creates colors by combining physical inks on paper.

RGB and CMYK are designed for different purposes.
| RGB | CMYK |
|---|---|
| Used for screens and digital images | Used for printed products |
| Creates colors with light | Creates colors with ink |
| Can display brighter colors | Depends on available inks and printing conditions |
RGB usually has a wider color range than CMYK. Some bright colors visible on screens cannot be reproduced with standard printing inks.
When RGB artwork is converted for printing, colors may shift depending on the image content, paper type, and printing conditions.
For more details about the printing color system, see CMYK Process Color.

A screen can produce colors using light directly, while printed products rely on reflected light from ink and paper.
Because of this difference:
Bright neon colors may become less vivid.
Some blue and green tones may change.
Dark areas may appear different after conversion.
This does not mean the file is incorrect. It means the same RGB values cannot always be reproduced with CMYK inks.
Color expectations should be reviewed based on the final printing process and material selection.
RGB images can be used during the design process, but final production files should follow the required color setup.
Before submitting artwork:
Check RGB images and graphic elements.
Convert colors when required.
Review important colors after conversion.
Confirm the final appearance before production.
The conversion result should be checked together with CMYK Process Color settings and the final Print-Ready File requirements.

RGB describes color information, but it does not determine image sharpness.
Image quality mainly depends on resolution, image size, and file quality.
A high-resolution RGB image may still require color conversion before printing, while a low-resolution image may remain unclear even after conversion.
Check image quality requirements in Image Resolution before preparing final artwork.
RGB is commonly used in the early design stage, especially when working with:
Digital photographs
Website images
Screen previews
Before production, the artwork should be reviewed according to the final printing requirements.
Keeping track of color mode, image quality, and export settings helps reduce unexpected color changes in the final product.
