Custom sprayed edges book printing applies solid colors or supplied patterns to the trimmed page edges. We produce bulk hardcover and paperback editions from buyer-supplied files, with the edge treatment coordinated with the cover and binding.
This finish is commonly used for special editions and collector books. Different edge colors can also distinguish individual volumes within the same series.
Solid-color edges can cover only the fore edge or all three trimmed edges. The selected color may match the cover or create a contrasting effect.
Patterned sprayed edges require a separate artwork file matched to the finished book block. Because the available edge area depends on the page count and paper thickness, the artwork dimensions should be confirmed after the book specifications are fixed.
Sprayed edges can be combined with both hardcover book printing and softcover book printing.
Thread-sewn casebound books provide a firm structure for premium editions. Perfect bound or sewn perfect bound paperbacks offer a lighter format while retaining the same decorative edge effect. The most suitable binding depends on the page count and intended use.
A smooth and evenly trimmed book block produces the cleanest result. White paper keeps light colors clearer, while cream paper can make them appear warmer. Highly absorbent paper may also soften fine pattern details.
A thicker book provides more visible space for edge artwork. Thin books usually need simpler patterns so the design remains recognizable when the book is closed.
Sprayed edges can be combined with foil stamping, embossing or debossing on the cover. Printed endpapers and ribbon bookmarks can continue the same visual direction inside the book. Dust jackets and slipcases are also available for special-edition novel printing projects.
Gold and silver page edges use a gilding process rather than ordinary sprayed color and should be specified separately.
We check the book block trimming before applying the edge finish. Coverage around the corners and pattern position are inspected during production. The pages must separate cleanly after drying, and the finished edge is checked for rubbing or visible white gaps before packing.
Send the finished size, page count, paper, binding method and quantity. Please also confirm whether the finish will cover one edge or all three. For patterned edges, include the supplied artwork or a reference image so we can review production feasibility.
